Charles Haddon Spurgeon

This reminds me of story of a similar picture that was in the hall of Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary (Ft. Worth, Texas). The story has it that an oil painting of Mr. Spurgeon was passed down from generations until it arrived at the seminary, and as the SBC was highly Calvinistic at that time, they wanted his portrait put up as inspiration. There was only one problem, though: he had a cigar in his mouth! So they hired an artist to paint over it with the same color as the background, his shirt/jacket, and his face, so as to make it look like he was merely standing there!

That's my Spurgeon anecdote for today.
